You Are the Special One

After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.  It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.  The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.  1 Corinthians 3:5-8

I remember when I was a new Christian and I was just beginning to learn God’s Word.  I was still in the stage when I thought I really wasn’t good enough to be a Christian.  I thought that Christians had to be perfect, or near perfect (although I hadn’t met any perfect ones!).  And serving the Lord was something that I thought I would NEVER be able to do.  Serving was for people who were “set aside” – special people.  Didn’t they even wear special collars?

When I started learning scripture that pressure was removed.  I learned that I don’t have to worry about how much faith I have, the Holy Spirit GIVES me faith. I only have to receive it.  And the same thing applies to serving the Lord – we are all “good enough.”  And further, we are all EXPECTED to serve – there’s no excuse not to.

The above scripture puts it simply – We are all God’s servants. Some of us water, some of us plant. We work as a team, each using our own particular gifts that God gave us.  (For more information about using our gifts, read 1 Corinthians Chapter 12).  But it’s God who does the growing.  We can work in His field and leave the results up to Him!  We may never see the complete fruit of our labors — we may never know the full impact of our service to the Lord — until that day when we arrive in heaven and we hear “well done, good and faithful servant.”

So let’s do what we can do now to serve, using our gifts, not always worrying about the results. God can handle that part.  Just know that when you are serving, you are making more of an impact than you may know.
